President Serzh Sargsyan participated at the unofficial summit of the CSTO leaders

On July 31, President Serzh Sargsyan participated at the unofficial summit of the CSTO leaders in Kyrgyzstan.

The meeting was attended by the Presidents of Armenia, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan,Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Before the meeting, the President of Kyrgyzstan Bakiyv welcomed his colleagues, Heads of the CSTO member states.

At the summit, which took place at the Rukh Ordo cultural and ethnographic center located on the shore of Issyk Kul lake, the leaders of the CSTO member states exchanged views on the area of CSTO responsibility, pressing issues of international security and discussed issues related to the information policy.

At the ensuing press conference the President of Kyrgyzstan Kourmanbek Bakiyev said that the leaders discussed in an open and constructive way issues pertaining to security, particularly the fight against religious extremism and terrorism. The Presidents of the CSTO member states underscored the necessity of conducting a coordinated information policy. They also reached the agreement to establish on the shores of Issyk Kul a center for young people.

On the conclusion of the unofficial summit, the President of Kyrgyzstan Bakiyev gave an official dinner in honor of the CSTO leaders.

From Bishkek the President of Armenia will be heading to Orenburg region in Russia, where he will attend the opening ceremony of the “National village” Armenian cultural center. In Orengburg he will lay a wreath at the tomb of the great Armenian poet Vahan Terian and will meet with the representatives of the local Armenian community.
