President Serzh Sargsyan received the governor of Russia’s Ulyanovsk region Sergei Morozov

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the governor of Russia’s Ulyanovsk region Sergei Morozov. The delegation headed by the governor has arrived to Armenia in the framework of the cooperation with Armenia’s Shirak region.

Welcoming the guests, President Sargsyan said, “Russia is Armenia’s strategic ally, reliable partne,r and we are interested in developing relations on all directions.”

The President of Armenia viewed the inter-regional cooperation as an important element of bilateral relations and noted, “It is not a coincidence that I have started a series of visits to the regions of the Russian Federation. These visits possess a great potential for the enhancement of the Armenian-Russian economic relations and are a strong signal for motivating our compatriots and reinforcing their relations with Armenia.”

President Sargsyan underlined, in particular, the importance of cooperation with Shirak marz and stressed that the region’s development was a priority for the Armenian Government too. Noting, that the consequences of the devastating earthquake of 1988 have not been totally eliminated yet, Serzh Sargsyan said that Armenia was grateful to all those who helped us and continue to do so.

Governor Morozov informed that his delegation comprised also the relatives of the pilots, whose plane crashed while delivering urgently need assistance to Armenia, and said, “We are grateful and touched by the attitude toward the memory of the pilots killed in the plane crash.”

Speaking about the prospects of cooperation, the parties noted the importance of coordinating the existing economic potential, exchanged views on possible directions of cooperation, and concrete programs which encompass various areas. The President of Armenia stressed that it would also be important for creating new jobs and resolving the situation with unemployment in the region.

Sergei Morozov said that Ulyanovsk region was home to 15000 Armenians and hailed their contribution to the social and economic development of the region and enrichment of its cultural life. He also informed that next year he intends to build a large Armenian national-cultural center in the region and implement educational programs. Governor Morozov invited the President of Armenia to visit Ulyanovsk region.
