The newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany presented his credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan

Today, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Armenia Hans Jochen Smidt presented his credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.

Congratulating the Ambassador on this new assignment, President Sargsyan noted that the previous German ambassadors to Armenia left a good legacy of the Armenian-German cooperation and expressed confidence that the newly appointed Ambassador would also have a significant contribution to the expansion of bilateral ties.

The President of Armenia said that our country attaches great importance to deepening relations with Germany. President Sargsyan noted that Germany is one of the major trade partners of Armenia, by the level of assistance provided to Armenia it is second only to the US, many projects are being implemented in technical and financial areas, political dialogue is also on a high level, as well as cultural ties and cooperation in the framework of EU.

Ambassador Smidt said that Germany would continue its vigorous and aim-oriented assistance to Armenia, and he, as Ambassador, would do his best to promote the Armenian-German cooperation.

The parties exchanged views regarding possibilities for the expansion of bilateral relations. They also spoke about regional issues. The Ambassador said that Germany welcomes the initiative directed at the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations, assessing it as an important contribution to the strengthening of security, stability, and cooperation in the Caucasus region.
