Working visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Kaliningrad
During his working visit to Kaliningrad region, President Serzh Sargsyan, accompanied by Governor Georgi Boss visited the newly constructed Yantarni sport and cultural complex, which was built by Armenian construction workers. Touring the complex the President of Armenia said that through the centuries Armenian builders and architects with their artisanship and talent created in Armenia and different parts of the world thousands of stunning structures such as this one and today too continue their hard and gratifying job.
Later, there took place a meeting of the President of Armenia and the Governor of Kaliningrad. President Sargsyan noted that the interregional cooperation plays an important role in the development of the Armenian-Russian strategic partnership. Serzh Sargsyan and Georgi Boss discussed issues related to further expansion of cooperation and programs implemented toward that end. The interlocutors expressed hope that in the coming months the agreements reached during President Sargsyan’s visit would produce visible results also in the economic area.
In Kaliningrad, the President of Armenia was awarded with the highest honor of this north-west region of the Russian Federation – Order of Honor.
The President of Armenia visited also the newly built Armenian cultural and spiritual center and lit a candle at the Saint Stephanos Church. The official ceremony of opening the Armenian cultural and spiritual center, which is built through the efforts of the Armenian community, took place with the participation of President Sargsyan and Governor Boss. Present at the ceremony were also numerous representatives of the Armenian community. President Sargsyan toured the new edifice and presented the center with the text-books and Armenian books and periodicals.
The President of Armenia expressed thanks to the Governor of Kaliningrad for consistent assistance and thoughtful attitude, and also for help in building the cultural center. Georgi Boss said that the Armenian community enjoys respect and appreciation in the region and promotes well-being of the region by its day-by-day work.
At his statement in the cultural center, President Sargsyan noted that the establishment of the center in Kaliningrad is a reflection of the centuries-long friendship between Armenia and Russia, between the Armenian and Russian peoples.
For the activities aimed at the preservation of the Armenian identity, enhancement of Armenia-Diaspora relations, and construction of the center, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Kaliningrad region Yuri Kajoyan was awarded by the President of Armenia with the Movses Khorenatsi medal.
Today, late at night the delegation headed by President Sargsyan, which comprises the Secretary of National Security Council Arthur Baghdassarian, the Minister of Diaspora Affairs Hranush Hakopian, the Minister of Agriculture Gerasim Alaverdian, and the Mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglarian will return to Armenia.
