President Serzh Sargsyan received the President of the International Federation for Human Rights

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the President of the International Federation for Human Rights Mrs. Souhayr Belhassen, who has arrived to Armenia to participate in the works of the 37th conference of the Federation.

President Sargsyan praised the unfolding cooperation of the Federation with the Republic of Armenia and welcomed the decision to organize conference in Yerevan on such a high level.

President Sargsyan noted that in the area of human rights protection Armenia still has many unresolved issues but apparently it would be impossible to solve them all at once. “On this particular issue, we make judgment based on the principle of comparison, and if today there are more problems than there were several years ago it means that we have to thoroughly review our work. However, if there is some progress, it means that we are on the right track,” noted the President of Armenia.

Mrs. Souhayr Belhassen thanked President Sargsyan for Armenia’s efforts aimed at making the conference a success. She assessed the organization of the IFHM conference in our region as a historic event, noting that “Nowadays, Yerevan has become the capital of human rights.” She also said that from the viewpoint of human rights protection in our region Armenia has an advantageous position and today because of Armenia the entire region becomes important.

The President of the IFHR expressed hope that cooperation with Armenia would develop, improving the activities of the Armenian structures called upon the protection of human rights. At the same time she noted that her various appeals addressed to the Armenian authorities have never been left unanswered.

The President of Armenia wished the participants of the conference efficient and successful work and expressed hope that they concurrently would have an opportunity to familiarize with history and traditions of our country.
