President Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretary General of ITU Dr. Hamadoun Touré

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretary General of ITU (International Telecommunication Union) Dr. Hamadoun Touré.

Welcoming Dr. Touré, the President of Armenia expressed hope that his visit would become an important step toward deepening and further development of cooperation between Armenia and ITU. Serzh Sargsyan said that reforms currently underway in Armenia in the area of telecommunications have also resulted from the interaction with the ITU.

The Secretary General of the ITU said that in recent years the area of telecommunications in Armenia has registered considerable advancement.

The parties conversed about the problems and opportunities for development in the areas of information technology and telecommunication. Dr. Hamadoun Touré said that the Organization would continue its cooperation with Armenia in three key areas: capacity growth, management, and digitization of telecommunications.

Noting, that along with the expansion of internet services cybersecurity becomes a serious problem, President Sargsyan stressed the importance of the ITU’s assistance to Armenia in providing professional training, technical assistance, and advisory opinion.
