President Serzh Sargsyan’s working visit to Moscow

On May 8, President Sargsyan, who is in Moscow on a working visit, laid a wreath at the tomb of Marshal Hovaness Baghramian on the Red Square. On behalf of the President of Armenia wreathes were also laid at the memorials of Hamazasp Babajanian, Marshal of Armored Troops, Khudyakov-Khamferiants, Marshal of Aviation, and Admiral Isakov.

Later, at the Gorki residence of the Russian President near Moscow there took place an unofficial meeting of the Heads of the Collective Security Treaty Organization states. The meeting was attended by the Presidents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and the Secretary General of the CSTO Nikolay Bordjuzha.

At the proposal of President Medvedev discussed were pressing issues of the international agenda. Particularly, the participants discussed problems existing on the territory of the CSTO states, focusing on the situation in Kyrgyzstan after the coup d’etat.
The President of the Russian Federation presented to his colleagues from the CSTO countries some details of the new Strategic Arms Reduction agreement, signed with the US President Barack Obama on April 8.

At the Gorki residence of the President of the Russian Federation upon the conclusion of the unofficial meeting of the CSTO leaders the unofficial summit of the CIS Heads of State started.

The leaders of CSTO were joined by Presidents of Ukraine and Turkmenistan, Victor Yanukovich and Gurbanghuli Berdimukhamedov, as well as by the Acting President of Moldova, Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Mikhai Gimpu. Present at the Summit was also the Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev.

President Dmitri Medvedev made opening remarks. He welcomed the guests and thanked them for accepting his invitation to celebrate Victory Day together. After that the President of Russia spoke about the CIS priorities for this year, noting among them cooperation in the areas of science and high technologies, modernization of economy and overcoming the global crisis, as well as cooperation in the humanitarian area.
