The official ceremony of presenting the Presidential Awards for 2009 took place today at the President’s Office. The Presidential Awards are given in seventeen nominations to twenty-one representatives in the areas of science and arts.

The President of Armenia congratulated the winners and noted that the idea to perform the annual award-giving ceremony was a truly important and nice initiative. According to the President, the awards not only encourage the winners but also invite special attention of our society to the achievements in the areas of science and arts and increase competition.

“All the award-winning works are equally precious for us, however I would like to recognize two winners, whose works are related to the scientific research on the Armenian Genocide and are intended to offset all the attempts to negate it. I believe, the importance and timeliness of our success in this area is obvious for everyone. I congratulate with special feelings our young winners – the artists, musicians and writers, whose entrance into Great Art has been heralded today by these awards. I hope, that this event will encourage them and usher a new phase in their creative lives. To our scientists I wish to carry on with our rich traditions in precise sciences. I am confident that the works like these ones will augment the repute and competitiveness of our science and scientists all over the world. Both science and arts are indispensable components for the existence and advancement of any nation. By creating, inventing and educating we breath new life in the centuries-long journey of our nation, and we will register excellent results if our faith, vigor and respect toward the work and creativity are steadfast. Your success paves the way for our country’s future, and I have no doubt that it will be a bright future,” President Sargsyan said.

The President of Armenia thanked also the Pogossian family from France: The Presidential Awards were established in 2001 through the initiative and financial support of the Pogossian family, and there are already 161 winners of the Presidential Awards.
