Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received a group of members of the National Assembly of France, who are visiting Armenia and Artsakh. The visit was initiated by the Chairman of the French-Armenian Parliamentary Group Francois Rochbluan.

Welcoming the guests, the President of Armenia underscored that he highly values their decision to visit Artsakh. “It allowed you to familiarize with the situation first hand, to listen to the leadership of Artsakh and common people, to learn about their aspirations and challenges they face. It means that during the relevant discussions you will be able to present not proxy information but whatever you actually saw with your own eyes,” said the President of Armenia.

The guests told the President about their impressions from the trip, posed a number of questions related to the perspectives of Armenia’s and Karabakh’s development, the Armenian position on the resolution of the problems existing between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Armenia and Turkey.

The French parliamentarians said that there was a huge difference between what they had heard about Artsakh before the trip and what they actually saw during the trip: the reality surpassed all their expectations. According to them, it was obvious that Artsakh was striving to build a society based on democratic principles, which is also proved by the recently held parliamentary elections. The guests also noted that they were particularly impressed by the safety, security and neatness of Stepanakert, which is uncommon for the towns under imminent war threat.

The President of Armenia thanked the French parliamentarians for their constant interest toward Armenia and Artsakh, noting that cooperation between parliaments is a perfect way for the development of bilateral relations, establishment of mutual trust and understanding.
