Today, on behalf of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and Mrs. Rita Sargsyan a state dinner was held at the Presidential Palace in honor of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and Mrs. Svetlana Medvedeva. According to established protocol, the Presidents of the two countries made toasts.

“This is a momentous visit. The very notion of the state visit symbolizes the highest level of the relations that may exist between the countries. And this visit is an excellent opportunity to review the dynamics of our relations, draw some conclusion, and set new objectives for our partnership,” the President of Armenia said.

“We take pride in strong ties between our nations which dates back centuries, in multi-faceted and efficient cooperation of the two countries. The Armenian-Russian cooperation is one of the most important components of security and stability in the Caucasus region. And it is proved by the significance of the issues we are going to discuss,” noted President Sargsyan.

Serzh Sargsyan spoke also about the importance of the enormous legacy of the Armenian-Russian cooperation characterized by the centuries-long friendship, mutual trust and dedication to the values. “From the first minutes of the state visit of the President of the Russian Federation, I was once again taken by the feeling of mutual trust, feeling that we can move forward. We can and we will call to life preset joint programs,” said President Sargsyan.

The President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev expressed gratitude to President Serzh Sargsyan for warm welcome, for kind words about the Russian Federation and Russian colleagues. “Our relations indeed date back centuries. And what’s important – at the most dramatic historical junctures our nations traditionally supported each other. There are many examples to prove it,” President Medvedev said in his remarks.

He also said that Armenia was among the first countries to come to Russia’s aid during the recent summer fires, bringing great moral and material support.

“The Russian-Armenian relations - bilateral as well as in the framework of the CSTO and CIS – are really very close. They can be called exemplary, at all directions. Our dialogue is mutually beneficial, it is realized also directly, at the personal and region to region levels, which is important and commendable.

I would like to personally thank the leadership of Armenia, all our counterparts for strengthening our relations, for their sincere desire to expand our partnership and ties. This state visit is a symbol of that very partnership,” the President of the Russian Federation stated.

The state dinner in honor of the President of the Russian Federation was attended by the Presidents of Armenia and Russia, their spouses, members of the official delegations of the two countries, representatives of public, cultural and business circles who play important role in the development of the Armenian-Russian relations.
