On August 29, in the framework of his visit to the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, President Serzh Sargsyan accompanied by the President of NKR Bako Sahakian, other Artsakhi officials and Executive Director of Hayastan All-Armenian Fund visited the newly built School N. 11 in Stepanakert and Creative Center for young people. On the eve of a new academic year President Sargsyan familiarized with the educational and artistic conditions created at these establishments.

At the Stepankert School N. 11, the high guests were informed that the School built for 560 students has all necessary facilities – library, gym, play ground, center for military, labor and computer classes, medical room, etc. The premises of the School have been beautified: plants have been planted and the territory’s got external lighting system.

At the School N. 11 President Serzh Sargsyan also answered a question raised by a teacher which related to Azerbaijan’s attempts to violate the existing format for the NK negotiations and exploit the issue in the UN and other international forums.

President Sargsyan toured also the nicely built Creative Center which can accommodate up to 1000 children and comprises sections for music and art, technical design, applied arts, and esthetics.

Later, the President of Armenia visited the Central Park of Stepankert which is in the final stage of repairs. The renovated Park will present to the residents of Stepanaker and its guests new, improved appearances including the Singing Fountains. The inauguration of the Central Park is to take place on the eve of Artsakh’s Independence Day.

President Serzh Sargsyan responds to the question raised by a teacher

The Republic of Nagorno Karabakh is developing and thriving. We build our state with out own hands. However Azerbaijan loses no opportunity to introduce at the UN and other international organizations new resolutions, trying to mislead the international community. How long will Azerbaijan pursue this course? Don’t they understand that this is an independent Republic which they have nothing to do with?

S. Sargsyan – I wish you posed this question to Aliev. I cannot be responsible for Azerbaijan’s policy. I am responsible for Armenia’s and, to some degree, for the policies implemented by different segments of our nation. On the other hand, I am surprised that you’re baffled by Azerbaijan’s moves. I am also a little surprised that you worry about it. Probably one should worry, however it shouldn’t reflect on your activities. Your task is to educate and bring up children, strengthen their sense of patriotism, inspire them with desire to acquire great knowledge and not only in school – all life long they should aspire for knowledge. Those responsible for that particular issue, those who make politics will, I hope, find solutions.

Now, on a more practical note – yes, there is information that during the UN General Assembly, probably on September 9, the Azeris will present a draft of the resolution. Adoption or non-adoption of that resolution will not have any significant impact on political or economic lives of Armenia and Artsakh or on the area of security. Probably, some countries will vote in favor of the resolution. Most likely the countries which constantly manifest solidarity with Azerbaijan, first of all, countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. But I am confident that all the countries who want to see peaceful resolution of the conflict through negotiations will oppose the resolution, or at least, abstain. They certainly understand that adoption of the resolutions such as this one will not have positive impact on the process of negotiations.
This is one side of the issue. Second, I believe everyone understands that Azerbaijan is committing yet another terrible mistake and we will use that mistake for our own purposes. We will definitely take steps which will bring us closer to our objectives.

I would like to ask you again to ask me about our activities. Our activities will constantly be aimed at making not only Azerbaijan but other countries as well understand that there is no way back, that Karabakh will never be part of Azerbaijan, that Artsakh is a real state – maybe small one, with a multitude of problems but a state and this state will develop and strengthen.

You teach children that there are four seasons to each year and nobody can change it: Spring will be succeeded by summer, summer - by fall, and fall - by winter. Our course is unchangeable just like that. We will go on. Coming back to the issue at hand: You continue the struggle on your front, we – on our front, and the troops – on theirs. If we all succeed in our own area, we will be able to state that our problems diminish.
