Today, President Serzh Sargsyan, who is in Serbia on official visit, met with the Patriarch of Serbia His Holiness Irinej.

The President of Armenia and Patriarch of Serbia stressed the importance of warm relations existing between the Armenian Apostolic Church and Serb Orthodox Church. President Serzh Sargsyan noted that the Church had played an outstanding role in the Armenian history – in the absence of statehood it time and again assumed the noble mission of uniting and leading the nation. According to the President of Armenia, today too the Church is vital for the Armenians, just as it is for the Serbs.

At the meeting with His Holiness Irinej, Serzh Sargsyan also noted that it is symbolic that the Armenian peacekeeping unit in Kosovo, within responsibilities has also assumed the task of protecting Serbian churches in Kosovo.
