President Serzh Sargsyan received James Appathurai

President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General in Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai.

The President congratulated James Appathurai on his appointment as the Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General in Caucasus and Central Asia and wished him success in this work. Serzh Sargsyan expressed hope that during Mr. Appathurai’s his tenure in office relations between the NATO and Armenia will become even stronger.

In the context of the mutual beneficial partnership with NATO, President Serzh Sargsyan stressed the importance of the efficient implementation of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) and expressed hope that the renewed Armenia-NATO IPAP for 2011-2012 will be confirmed soon which will allow to elevate the partnership to a qualitatively new level.

The Special Representative of NATO noted that the Secretary General tasked him to deepen the already existing quality cooperation with Armenia and on his new position he is determined to achieve that. He also expressed special thanks on behalf of NATO for the participation of Armenian units in the NATO missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo.

James Appathurai praised initiatives of the Armenian President aimed at the normalization of political relations with the neighboring states and consistent reformation within the country.

The parties discussed the outcome of the recently held meeting in Kazan and exchanged views on the resolution of the NK conflict.
