Tonight, President Serzh Sargsyan and President of the Republic of Poland Bronslaw Komorowski, who is in our country on official visit, met with the Armenian and Polish businessmen and greeted participants of the Armenian-Polish Business Forum. “Regular organization of meetings, forums and round tables provides good opportunity to establish relations and outline ways for future cooperation. They invigorate considerably economic and trade relations and establish mutually beneficial cooperation between economic entities.

For the last 20 years, the Armenian-Polish economic relations have been developing consistently; the area is regulated by a number of bilateral agreements. However, it should be admitted that there is still much to be done for the enhancement of the bilateral economic relations and utilization of the existing potential. We cannot be content with the current turnover: 32 million USD is a negligible amount compared to what we can have. I believe it is necessary to jointly conduct serious work to bring the Armenian-Polish economic relations to the level of our cooperation in political, cultural and other areas.

I am glad that in the last two years we have registered positive changes. There took place two sessions of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic cooperation – one in Yerevan, and one in Warsaw - and Yerevan-Warsaw flight has become operational. I am certain that all this will have its positive impact,” the President of Armenia said in his remarks, speaking about areas that might be interesting for the Polish businesses. The President of Armenia noted that works were underway in the tax and customs administration area to improve business environment which will make business procedures easier and more transparent and thus will considerably promote bilateral business relations.

“Traditions, scientific and technological potential in Armenia created prerequisites for the development of information technologies, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and chemical industry. Opportunities here are abundant indeed. Nowadays, Armenia establishes Free Trade zones where entrepreneurs will have opportunities to carry out unprecedented innovative and experimental programs for Armenia. Free Trade zones in Armenia could promote implementation of innovative initiatives by the businesses not only for Armenia but also for businesses from Poland and other countries. We are ready to take necessary steps on that direction too, in order to increase volumes of Polish capital in our economy.

Vigorously developing infrastructure and energy sectors in Armenia also open wide horizons for bilateral cooperation in the framework of the investment programs for North-South highway and construction of a new nuclear plant. These are multi-billion projects and open excellent prospects for Polish companies,” Serzh Sargsyan underscored.

According to the President of Armenia, there is also considerable potential for cooperation in the area of agriculture, construction, light industry, jewelry production and chemical industry. The President of Armenia wished success to the Armenian and Polish businessmen and expressed hope that during the next visit of the Polish President, there will be Polish investors in Armenia and the turnover will register triple or even quadruple increase.

The President of Poland expressed thanks for the opportunity created in the framework of his visit for the entrepreneurs to meet and underlined that in Poland centuries-long Polish-Armenian relations are spoken of with pleasure and content, as well the presence of the Armenian community and their contribution to the country’s life. “I should say that when in Poland we think of Armenians we always recall such qualities as efficiency, entrepreneurial spirit and diligent work. I would love to see our economic relations rise to the current level of our political relations.

Poland’s assistance to Armenia, which has embarked on the road of Eurointegration, is also manifested in our cooperation in the framework of the negotiations on Armenia-EU free trade agreement. We are confident that Armenia is on the right way for economic development, and it will pave the road for Eurointegration. I have no doubt that now and in the future our relations with Armenia will become even better, business ties will become stronger, and friendship will become closer.

Thus, we will conduct simultaneously our political dialogue, our assistance to Armenia on your road toward Eurointegration and will work toward strengthening and developing our economic relations. I would like to express gratitude for cooperation and joint discussions carried out by the Armenian and Polish businessmen during these two days. I have no doubt that along with Armenia’s future development, opportunities for capital inflow will increase, and it will also include the Polish capital. I would also like to express hope that Armenian companies will register at the Warsaw stock exchange, which provides an excellent opportunity for financing, which Armenian companies also need for development,” the President of Poland said noting that he considers the agreement signed in the framework of his visit a good sign for the development of business ties. The document pertains to the Polish company which after winning a tender was commissioned to print Armenian national passports. “I am confident that citizens of this proud country, Armenia, while carrying their national passports will also remember that Poland has some contribution to it too. I am certain that other businesses witnessing the success of this agreement will be encouraged to make investments in Armenia. Mr. President, these biometric passports that the citizens of Armenia will carry, will become also an excellent proof of the high level relations between Armenia and Poland,” President Bronislaw Komorowski underlined.
