Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received children-recipients of awards of the 2011 International Olympiads on different knowledge domains, awardees of the essay writing on the “We stand by our independence” theme and Kangaroo International mathematical game-competition.

The President of Armenia welcomed the participants of the meeting at the Presidential Palace, which has become a traditional event and noted that the Kangaroo International mathematical game-competition has acquired great popularity in our country and there are quite a few winners already. Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the winners of the International Thematic Olympiads, stressing that they are becoming a role model for many of their peers, including the winners of the Kengaroo competition.

“There is nothing more precious for me than to see a new smart generation growing up in Armenia. Please be assured that this meeting is very important for me too. I want your good deeds to be well-known because if every member of our society does his or her job as you do yours, we will make a few steps forward from where we stand now. I want your peers to see you here, so that they become eager to keep pace with you. I want your example to become “contagious.” Remember famous words of Paruyr Sevak? He said “Let people infect each other with good health.” I want your example to be “contagious” so that we shape right ideals, because, unfortunately, our society has also some malicious trends, there are some misperceived ideals, there are false heroes and it could be tempting for inexperienced young people. I wish that our society hails educated and thoughtful people like our chess players. We together with you ought to struggle to form such a society. We have very nice children whose upbringing rests mainly with their family; however, we should be able to increase the role of the school and out-of-school institutions. There can be no doubt that you are the pride of your parents but at the same time – of our society. Your talent and abilities are much needed. Well done! Carry on and be assured that hard work always pays off.

This is your first success but good work, discipline and kindness will undoubtedly yield results, have no doubt about that. Each and every one of you can say “yes, I am Armenia.” I once again congratulate you all, thank you and in anticipation of your future success wish you good health and diligence,” the President of Armenia said.

After the President’s welcoming remarks, some of the winners of the essay writing on the “We stand by our independence” theme expressed desire to read experts from their composition for the President, while the winners of the 2011 International Thematic Olympiad shared their impressions of the Olympiad.

President Sargsyan handed gifts to the laureates of the 2011 International Thematic Olympiad, all other participants of the meeting received souvenirs.

The winners of the 2011 International Thematic Olympiad and laureates of the essay writing on the “We stand by our independence” theme were awarded by the RA Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotian with the letters of commendation, all-round champion of the Kangaroo International mathematical game-competition Araxi Gasparian was awarded with a gold medal and certificate, while the best students of each marz and age group were handed diplomas.

After saying good-by to the children, President Sargsyan walked out the Presidential Palace and congratulated and thanked the parents and the teachers of the students who were waiting outside. “Victory through knowledge is the most precious victory for me,” President Sargsyan said.

After taking pictures with the President, the children toured the Presidential Palace.
