President Serzh Sargsyan participatedat the unofficial summit of the CIS Heads of State, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the CIS

President Serzh Sargsyan, who is in the Russian Federation on a working visit, participated today at the unofficial summit of the CIS Heads of State, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the CIS.

The Heads of CIS member states adopted a Declaration in which they reiterated their intention to enhance joint activities aimed at deepening cooperation, strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation, factual improvement of people’s life, promotion of their well-being and expansion of reciprocal contacts translating them into more practical results.

The document specifies strategic issues related to the development of cooperation in different areas in the framework of CIS. The parties expressed readiness to do everything necessary to maintain the CIS as an important factor of stability and security, area of mutually beneficial cooperation, a region of stable political, social-economic, humanitarian, scientific and technical development.

The CIS Heads of State discussed also issues related to the CIS economic cooperation in 2012. Parties highlighted the importance of cooperation in the areas of information and communication. They also made a decision regarding the enhancement of the role of CIS observer missions at the elections.

Concluding his working visit to the Russian Federation, delegation headed by the President of Armenia tonight will return to Yerevan.
