President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Director General of the RF Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation Sergei Kiriyenko.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the Armenian-Russian economic cooperation which is developing dynamically in different areas. They stressed the importance of the development of cooperation in the area of energy, including the construction of a new unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Station (ANPS).
President Serzh Sargsyan underscored that the construction of a new energy unit could become a major project in the framework of the Armenian-Russian cooperation.

Sergei Kiriyenko informed the President of Armenia that he has had productive meetings in Armenia, visited the Metsamor Nuclear Power Station, observed the operational unit and the area envisaged for the construction of a new unit. “We believe that works conducted currently by the RA Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources are open for the IAEA, the EU and the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO). It is a proper approach from the viewpoint of the works of the operational unit, additional safety measures as well as the construction of a new unit,” Sergei Kiriyenko, Director General of the RF Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation said. S. Kirienko also hailed the professional level of the ANPS employees and noted that a precise plan for future cooperation has been developed.

At the meeting, the President of Armenia awarded Sergei Kiriyenko, Director General of the RF Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation with the Order of Honor for his considerable input in the strengthening and development of the economic relations between Armenia and the Russian Federation.
