President Serzh Sargsyan received the Vice Prime Minister of Iraq Rosh Nuri al-Shawish

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Vice Prime Minister of Iraq Rosh Nuri al-Shawish. Stressing the importance of such a high-level delegation’s visit to Armenia, the President noted that visits such as this one can be very instrumental in strengthening the interstate relations. Serzh Sargsyan expressed wish for the bilateral relations to be continuous.

The Vice Prime Minister of Iraq spoke with satisfaction about the productive meetings held with the Armenian partners during the visit and reached agreements to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in a number of areas. He insured that the Iraqi authorities will spare no effort to develop relations with the friendly Armenia and bring them to the desirable level.

Rosh Nuri al-Shawish proposed to create an intergovernmental commission which will transfer the reached agreements to the practical level and assured that the Iraqi side is ready to form such a commission on a high level. President Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the proposal and underscored that the Armenian side is also ready to form the intergovernmental commission in a short period of time.

At the meeting with the President of Armenia, the Prime Minister of Iraq also informed of the intention of his country to reopen the Embassy of Iraq in Yerevan shortly.

The Vice Prime Minister of Iraq Rosh Nuri al-Shawish spoke with admiration about the Armenian-Iraqi community and underscored that Armenians in Iraq are respected and valued. According to the Vice Prime Minister, they are ambassadors who represent Armenia very well.

The parties noted that the Armenian-Iraqi good-neighborly relations and the friendship of the two nations are coming from time immemorial.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serzh Sargsyan noted that Armenia is greatly interested in the establishment of peace, stability and solidarity in the Middle East. The President of Armenia expressed confidence that the friendly Iraq will successfully overcome all current problems and will be developing steadily.
