President received delegation of the members of the European Parliament

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received delegation representing the conservative and reformist faction of the European Parliament headed by Martin Callanan.

The President of Armenia welcomed members of the European Parliament to our country and stated with satisfaction that the Armenia-EU dialogue is moving smoothly upward and according to the President in that process the role of parliamentarians is significant. Serzh Sargsyan reiterated the statement made on many occasions that the rapprochement with Europe is a vital element of the Armenian foreign policy and in the President’s words it is not accidental since the Armenian civilization is the indelible part of the European civilization.

At the meeting, the parties stressed the importance of developing cooperation and active contacts among political forces for the further development of the Eurointegration processes. The President of Armenia and members of the European Parliament discussed issues of the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda, including the ongoing negotiations on the Association Agreement as well as cooperation in the framework of Eastern Partnership.

Participants of the meeting exchanged views on the regional issues, existing challenges and the current stage of the NK peace process. At the request of the guests, Serzh Sargsyan presented Armenia’s position on that issue. The Head of the delegation Martin Callanan hailed Armenia’s efforts aimed at the resolution of the conflict.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the members of the delegation expressed gratitude for the high level and warm welcome and wished President Sargsyan success in his second term in office.
