President attended the opening ceremony for the Empowering Youth Film Showcase

 

Today, at the Moscow movie theater President Serzh Sargsyan attended the opening ceremony of the American documentary Film Showcase entitled Empowering Youth. The showcase started with the première of the Brooklyn Castle documentary relating the story of a Brooklyn school chess team. The film shows how love for chess helps children to overcome all difficulties and to build confidence in their own strength. The idea is that if they are able to master the most difficult game in the world, in the future they can achieve greater results.

The event is organized jointly by the Embassy of the United States in Armenia and Tumo Center for Creative Technologies.

Before the show, President Sargsyan watched the final part of the chess tournament which was conducted at the stage in the Red Hall of the Moscow movie theater. Members of the Armenian chess national team participated in the tournament of multi-board chess play with children.

In the framework of the event, there also took place the award ceremony for the winners of “My teacher - my source of inspiration” competition on compositions held in the schools. The awards were handed by the US Ambassador John Heffern and the Founder of the Dasaran.am interschool interactive network Suren Aloyan.
