President signs degree to establish procedure for election of candidates nominated by Armenia as judges of European Court of Human Rights

 

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan of the Republic of Armenia signed a decree to
establish the procedure for the election of candidates nominated by Armenia as judges of the European Court of Human Rights.

For the first time the functions of the Competition Commission making selection of candidates, the nomination and election procedures of candidates, as well as other related issues are regulated by a legal document signed by the head of state.

The implementation of the mentioned procedure is called to ensure fair, transparent and open elections of candidates nominated for the position of judge at the European Court in compliance with the international obligations assumed by our state and the judicial standards stemming from them.
