President received the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Cyril Muller


President Serzh Sargsyan received today the WB Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Cyril Muller. Saluting Cyril Muller’s yet another visit to our country, the President underscored that it testifies to the strong partnership between Armenia and the World Bank. The President of Armenia hailed the WB role in the social and economic development of Armenia and stressed that from the very beginning the WB has been perceived not as only a sponsor of the investment programs but also a reliable partner in the area of economic reforms and development of human potential. Serzh Sargsyan expressed hope that partnership established between Armenia and the WB will preserve its already formed positive traditions and experience while the preset directions will acquire a new quality, reflecting in full global economic challenges, regional developments, peculiarities of each country, and policy priorities.

The parties stressed the importance of the continued implementation of the reforms in Armenia, export boosting and ensuring of sustainable development through the enhanced competitiveness. President Sargsyan underscored that Armenia will be consistent in the implementation of the reforms aimed at the improvement of the economic atmosphere.

Noting that today is the anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Spitak, the Vice President of the World Bank said that the WB started its activities in Armenia with the implementation of the rehabilitation programs in the residential areas which suffered in the earthquake and in subsequent years successfully developed the cooperation which included different areas of the Armenian economy. “Next year we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of our partnership with Armenia; now we are conducting feasibility studies in the areas where we can successfully implement new programs. Please be assured that the World Bank will do its best to assist Armenia in her advancement,” said the Vice President of the World Bank Cyril Muller.
