President Armen Sarkissian was present at the International Astronomy Conference: I see Armenia as a scientific and technological hub

President Armen Sarkissian was present today at the international scientific conference held in Yerevan and dedicated to the compact white dwarf binaries which are believed to be a birthplace of supernew starts. Over 60 scholars from different scientific and educational institutions of the world such as the California Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Sheffield, Potsdam, Michigan, Moscow State University, have arrived to Armenia to participate at the conference.

President Sarkissian, who as a theorist-astrophysicist used to work in the area of relative astrophysics, welcomed the idea of holding the conference in Armenia, viewing it as very useful for the development of science and for Armenia as a country which holds scientific traditions. He wished success and efficient work to the participants of the conference and noted that they have arrived to Armenia not only to display their knowledge but also to learn.

«I am confident that the 21st century will be totally different from the 20th century and the main difference will be a transformation of science, technologies, human behavior, including transformation of politics. Technological progress will have a huge impact on every aspect, including fundamental social behavior, values, human behavior which is becoming more quantum,” President Sarkissian noted in his remarks and said that even democracy is changing its shape.

“This is a new world. I see Armenia as a scientific and technological hub. In the 21st century the main values will be human intellect, creativity, ideas based on the acquired knowledge, science, and technologies,” President Sarkissian underscored.

The conference is conducted through the support of the Department of Physics of the Yerevan State University and is organized by Professor Gagik Tovmassian from the National University of Mexico.
