President Sarkissian hosted Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong: Relations between our countries are progressing in the right direction

President Sarkissian hosted today at the Presidential Palace Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong and his delegation.

The face-to-face meeting of President Sarkissian and Prime Minister Lee Hdien Loong was followed by the meeting in the extended format with the participation of the two delegations. Welcoming the visit of the high guest to our country, President Sarkissian said in particular, “I am very glad that relations between Armenia and Singapore are progressing in the right direction. It is symbolic for me that during your visit you will also meet with the heads of the Eurasian Economic Union member states and the leader of Iran. Let’s hope that in the future, you will use Armenia as a gateway to Eurasia. I hope to see you here again for a longer period of time, when I and my colleagues, the government will have the opportunity to show you more of Armenia and Armenians.”

The Prime Minister of Singapore thanked for the warm welcome and noted, “We are small countries living in the world full of challenges related to uncertainties. At the same, in unpredictable situations small countries have certain advantages because they are able to adapt much faster than big countries. The time has come to benefit from talking to each other as well as from the opportunity to work together, cooperating in the areas of economy, tourism, in the framework of research and science initiatives. I hope, we will be able to do more with Armenia through the visits from Singapore to Armenia and vice versa.”

In response President Sarkissian noted that regardless of being small or big the challenges of the 21st century will be related to how efficiently we manage the enormous volumes of information. “In a sense, I have a feeling that we are standing at the threshold of a new era,” President of Armenia noted.

Armen Sarkissian underscored that the two countries could cooperate especially efficiently in the areas of mathematical modeling and artificial intelligence. On general, the parties expressed confidence that other mutually beneficial areas of cooperation might include high technologies and the banking system. In this context they stressed the importance of more active contacts of the business communities of the two countries.
