Armenia and Lithuania had common history and have great potential to deepen the relations: President Sarkissian hosted delegation of the Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas

President Armen Sarkissian hosted today the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Viktoras Pranckietis and his delegation.

President Sarkissian welcomed the visit of the Lithuanian parliamentarians to our country, noting that the two countries had common past, now share common values and possess great potential to deepen the existing relations.

Armen Sarkissian noted that Armenia attaches great importance to the enhancement of the ties with Lithuania in the bilateral area and in the framework of the EU programs. He hailed the assistance provided by Lithuania aimed at enhancing the cooperation in the framework of the Armenia-EU CEPA agreement.

“Throughout its history, Armenia has been at the crossroad of civilizations. Currently, we are working closely with the UAEU and EU in the framework of CEPA. It is our advantage. In a sense, we are also a crossroad for cooperation,” President Sarkissian said.

The Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas agreed that the two nations have common history and many similarities. He stressed the importance of deepening cooperation aimed into future. He expressed readiness to share their experience of working with EU with the Armenian partners and noted that Lithuania too, is interested in the deepening of Armenia-EU cooperation. The two sides underscored the necessity of developing cooperation in the areas of science, education, technologies and culture and implementation of joint programs.

“We used to have good traditions of cooperation in the areas of science and culture. I would like to see more of Lithuanian culture in Armenia,” President Sarkissian said. The President spoke of a number of Presidential initiatives, which are aimed at the scientific, technological, and cultural advancement of Armenia, and referred to the cooperation with international structures for their implementation.
