President sent a congratulatory message to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed: This Prize proves that Peace is not for bargain

President Armen Sarkissian sent a congratulatory message to the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.

“The Prize is awarded to the outstanding person, dedicated statesman and courageous political figure who made decisive efforts to solve a border dispute with neighboring Eritrea.

In any corner of the world, establishment of peace is an absolute objective for any nation, and your efforts aimed at reducing tension, creation of a healthy environment for the neighboring nations are invaluable.

Today, you stay as an example for many political leaders of the world, statesmen, and decision-makers. The Nobel Peace Prize awarded to you should remind us all that Peace is not for bargain, and nations must endeavor for peace with every possible means.

The political world is blessed to have leaders like you who reject conflict and support peace. We hope that your input will inspire other leaders to reduce tension and confrontation and to take steps toward peace. This Prize shows how few the traditional solutions are in this ever-changing world and how unconventional approaches could be more effective.

After all, countries are more successful when the entire population lives in peace with each other and neighbors. Our people too, throughout our history suffered from conflicts, wars and the genocide. We appreciate every effort which is aimed at saving lives and at our common future.

I am confident that the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize will give you even more courage and inspiration to carry on with your dedicated work. I hope, we will have the opportunity to meet in person and reckon around these issues. I once again congratulate you and your people and wish you success and new accomplishments.”
