The newly appointed Ambassador of Ethiopia in Armenia presented his credentials to President Armen Sarkissian: Friendship of Armenia and Ethiopia is centuries-long and it is a good base for developing relations

Today, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in the Republic of Armenia Alemayehu Tegenu (residence in Moscow) presented his credential to the President of Armenia.

President Sarkissian congratulated the Ambassador on assuming the position and expressed hope that he would use his professional experience and energy to deepen and strengthen relations between Armenia and Ethiopia. According to the President, Ethiopia is a country of the African continent with which Armenia has centuries-long friendship, two peoples have many similarities, mutual respect, common history and civilizations which is a good base for the development of the interstate relations.

President Sarkissian assessed as inspiring the decisive steps taken by Ethiopia in resolving a border conflict with Eritrea for which Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. “It shows how sometimes unconventional approaches can be more efficient than conventional ones,” the President underscored.

The President of Armenia and newly appointed Ambassador exchanged views on opportunities of cooperation in different areas. They concurred that potential for cooperation of the two countries in the areas of IT, agriculture, tourism, education, and culture is huge. “It is time, all of it is utilized and signed documents translate into practical steps,” President Sarkissian said.
