Greece will retify the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement soon : Delegations of Armenia and Greece headed by the Presidents had a meeting

A meeting between the delegations of the Republic of Armenia and Hellenic Republic headed by the Presidents took place today at the Presidential Palace.

Welcoming the visit of President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and his delegation to Armenia, President Sarkissian referred to the issues discussed earlier in the restricited format. “I was glad to learn that Greece will soon ratify the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. We concurred that it is very important for our bilateral coopration in the political, economic as well as cultural, scientific, and other areas,” President Sarkissian said. “We also stressed the significance of the trilateral Armenia-Greece-Cyprus platform. Besides, we can view Greece as a gateway to European Union and vice versa – Greece can view Armenia as a gateway to the Eurasian Economic Union.”

The President hailed potential of elevating the cooperation in all areas to a new level. Noting that the two nations have a traditionally formed diasporas, Presidents of Armenia and Greece stressed the importance of cooperation in the framework of Spyurk. “Being small states, both countries have huge diasporas and their cooperation in different parts of the world to move forward our bilateral and national interests will be essential. I totally agree with Mr. President that we need to do everything possible to establish a deeper and a more structured cooperation in different areas between the Armenian and Greek diasporas,” President Armen Sarkissian said. President of Greece Prokopis Pavlopoulos underscored that he was ready to bring his input to the deepening and strengthening of the bilateral relations.

“Our two peoples and countries are historically destined to cooperate, and we have to deepen that cooperation in all areas,” he underlined. The two Presidents viewed also as important a closer cooperation between the governments and parliaments of our countries and expressed readiness to support as much as possible their efforts.

They also discussed issues related to cooperation in the framework of international organizations. Noting that a parliamentary system of governance was new for Armenia, President Sarkissian proposed to discuss the opportunities of cooperation between the presidential structures of the two countries, particularly, exchange programs between the presidential administrations, considering a rich experience and traditions which Greece has in the area of parliamentary governance. The President of Greece gave a positive response to this proposal.
