President Sarkissian met with the Director-General for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson: society must have zero tolerance for corruption

President Armen Sarkissian, who is London to participate at the First Eastern Partnership Investment Forum of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) met with the Director-General for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the Armenia-EU cooperation, Armenia’s participation in different EU projects.

President Sarkissian proposed to pay greater attention to the projects aimed into future and noted that the future of our country were innovations and new technologies, artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling and large volume information management. In this context, President Sarkissian presented ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) Presidential initiative which is aimed at the development of these areas. It was underscored that broad opportunities for cooperation exist in the framework of this initiative.

Noting that great changes were going on in Armenia right now, President Sarkissian among priorities for advancement stressed the importance of democracy, strengthening of the rule of law and development of civil society. In this context, the parties spoke about the fight against corruption.

President Sarkissian viewed as imperative the change of the society’s mentality and attitude toward such occurrences, shaping of a new culture and zero tolerance of the society. In his words, for the organism to fight a disease, its immunity must be strengthened. By the same token, for the fight against corruption to be effective, it is necessary to shape a society which rejects corruption and has strong resistance for it.
