President Armen Sarkissian reiterated his proposal to host the 2021 annual meeting of the EBRD in Armenia

President Armen Sarkissian, who is in London on a working visit, met with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti. Present at the meeting was also the Vice Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinian.

President Sarkissian thanked the President of the EBRD for the invitation to participate at the First Eastern Partnership Investment Summit and efficient discussions. He noted with satisfaction the efficient cooperation unfolding between Armenia and EBRD and said that the partnership, which was over two decades old, allowed to implement multiple projects in the areas of energy, environment, infrastructure, natural resources, transportation, financial institutions, etc.

In his turn, Suma Chakrabarti underscored efficient cooperation with the government of Armenia and noted that result-wise this year has been the best so far. He said that the EBRD was determined to continue its assistance and the new cooperation strategy has already been drafted.

The President of EBRD viewed as interesting President Sarkissian’s the “small country, global nation” concept. President Sarkissian reiterated his proposal made last May to host the 2021 annual meeting of the EBRD in Armenia.

Armen Sarkissian said that the successful Summit of Francophonie held in 2018 and Global Conference on Information Technologies of 2019 have proved that Armenia is ready and has all necessary capacities and infrastructure to host the annual EBRD meeting at the highest level. Vice Prime Minister Avinian too, expressed confidence that the government was ready to host such an important event in our country which could become another important milestone in our cooperation with the EBRD.

The parties exchanged views on the opportunities for the implementation of joint projects, spoke about the development of the financial market, information technologies, and new possibilities for cooperation in the startups area.
