President Sarkissian hosted the YSU team which participated to the International Collegiate Programming Contest: victories in the area of science and education are equal to the victories in Olympic Games

President Armen Sarkissian hosted today the members of the Yerevan State University team which participated at the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) and among them Khazhak Galstian, Hamlet Mikaelian, Levon Muradian, the coach Albert Sahakian and Dean of the YSU Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics Vahram Dumanian.

This prestigious international students’ contest, which took place in Tbilisi, this year gathered over 3000 university students from 110 countries. The YSU team reached the finals.

The President congratulated the students on their achievement and wished them success and new victories. He noted that it is necessary to work and train diligently to achieve that. He said that such victories are equal to those in sports and Olympic Games and deserve the same attention and attitude.

The Dean of the YSU Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics said the team has registered outstanding results in this prestigious and tough contest which comprises several rounds. The finals will take place in June 2020, in Moscow. The students told about the contest and their future plans. Vahram Dumanian thanked the President for the attitude and noted that President’s attention was inspiring for the students. He stressed as important the fact that Armen Sarkissian has been viewing as significant the area of computer science and very promising for our country.

President Sarkissian recalled School Olympiads in Soviet times, his participation and experience, and noted that today too, education remains one of our greatest advantages.

Armen Sarkissian told also about the Presidential ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) program which is aimed at the development of science and technologies. A preliminary agreement on cooperation has already been reached with a number of the world’s leading technological companies, particularly, in the areas of artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling, and others.
