To be beautiful means to be appealing. You are not only appealing but you are also great personalities: on the eve of Women’s Day President Sarkissian hosted a group of renowned Armenian women

On the eve of Women’s Day, President Armen Sarkissian hosted at the Presidential Palace the ethnographer, researched, scholar of the Armenian Genocide, senior expert of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the RA Academy of Sciences, PhD, professor, RA Distinguished Science Worker Verzhine Svazlian, historian, translator, MA in History, veteran of the WWII, senior specialist of Matenadaran Margarita Darbinian, composer, educator, RA People’s Artist Geghuni Chitchian, and the veteran of the WWI Roslia Abgarian.

The President congratulated his prominent guests on the occasion of the Holiday, wished them good health and all the best. He hailed their contribution to the maturing of our country, development of culture and proliferation of knowledge and said that each of them was a living history, a living example of the dedicated service and devotion to the Fatherland and the nation. Through their work they have created the pages of the Armenian history which make great value and present eternal memory, the way of life, work, creation and creativity.

During a cordial and frank conversation with the President, the guests told him about their activities. They recalled episodes from their lives, spoke about the history of their families – Armenian Genocide, World War II…

President Sarkissian noted that each of us have their memories and pain. “However, on the other side, in spite of the Mets Eghern, hardship and pain, today we have a country which has a strong Army, has two symphonic orchestras, has wonderful musicians, has a Conservatoire which makes us all proud,” the President said. “We, Armenians can be proud because of our huge contribution to the WWII. We have a Matenadaran which many countries don’t even come close to. We possess the secret of survival, a special talent to live and endure.”

Our prominent compatriots are also beautiful because of their age - from 85 to 100. These are not just numbers but a unique chronicle of the person and destiny, the destiny which is inseparable from that of our state and nation. “I am very optimistic and look into the future openly and joyfully first of all because I am surrounded with ladies like you,” President Armen Sarkissian said addressing our compatriots whom he hosted today. “Beauty has nothing to do with age; it’s an ability to be appealing. All of you are not only appealing but also great personalities. First and foremost, I want to wish you all great health, and smiles so that your positive inner energy and vigor are passed on to the next generation. All the best to you.”
