President Armen Sarkissian today had a phone conversation with the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella.

The interlocutors discussed in detail the situation in the world related to the spread of the new coronavirus, particularly in Armenia and Italy.

The Presidents exchange information on the situation with the outbreak of the new coronavirus in their respective countries and trends, measures aimed at the prevention and treatment, stressed the importance of coordinated and balanced actions of the authorities and citizens’ responsible and disciplined attitude.

Sergio Mattarella presented the situation with the epidemic in Italy, positive and negative consequences of the steps taken towards thwarting the future spread of the disease, treatment of those infected, mitigation of the damage caused by the virus to the economy of the country and rehabilitation.

President Armen Sarkissian expressed his support to the President and people of Italy and informed that relevant steps have been taken in Armenia too, aimed at protection of people’s health and prevention of spread of the new coronavirus.

The President underscored that in case of pandemics, which present danger to the entire world and when the risk of spread of infection is very high, it is necessary to find common solutions, swiftly exchange experience and information.

The Presidents of Armenia and Italy concurred that regardless of measures taken by each state individually, cooperation in the exchange of information and experience among countries and relevant structures could also result in an increased efficiency of the fight against the disease.

The Presidents agreed to continue to regularly exchange pertinent information.
