President Armen Sarkissian invited the Director General of IAEA Rafael Grossi to participate at the Armenian Summit of Minds

President Armen Sarkissian in his letter addressed to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi invited him to Armenia to participate at the Armenian Summit of Minds to be held in Armenia on October 10-11.

Noting that this year the Summit will be dedicated to geopolitics, energy, and artificial intelligence, President Sarkissian expressed hope that the Director General’s participation will contribute to the success of the Summit. According to the President, various backgrounds of the participants, spanning politics, science and business, will ensure richness and diversity of views and perspectives on all presented topics. “Based on the success of the Summit of Minds - Armenia in 2019, we will strive to make the Summit of Minds - Armenia an annual event,” President Sarkissian notes. “Holding the event outside of Chamonix will both expand the geography of the “Summit of Minds” and discover new ideas and opportunities.”

Noting that energy in general and nuclear energy in particular are among the areas of his special interest, President Sarkissian said that was a member of the Global Council on Energy Security, World Economic Forum (WEF) and served as its first chairman, often speaks of the role of energy in the contemporary world at the prestigious international platforms.

Speaking of the ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) presidential initiative, Armen Sarkissian noted that it is aimed at developing science, IT technologies, and artificial intelligence, particularly, in the area of nuclear energy. The President of Armenia stressed that this ambitious project has already acquired attention of multiple international technological giants and preliminary agreements on cooperation with many of them will be signed soon.

In conclusion, the President of Armenia informed in detail the Director General of IAEA Rafael Grossi on the offensive military actions unleashed by Azerbaijan at the Tavush segment of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in mid-July and noted in the time, when the coronavirus pandemic poses the most serious challenge to almost every nation and state, Azerbaijan attacked Armenia. According to the President, Azerbaijan’s attacks on Armenia’s civilian population, schools, and infrastructure as well as threats to launch missile strikes on the Armenian nuclear power plant are inexcusable.
