President Armen Sarkissian continues series of meetings with intellectuals. This time the President hosted theater director Nikolay Tsaturian, editor-in-chief of Aravot newspaper Aram Abrahamian, author and publicist Vahram Martirossian, founder and editor-in-chief of Hayer media platform Arayk Manukian.

The participants of the meeting stressed in particular the necessity of structural changes in the area of culture and viewed as important steps in line with the times. Reference was made to the changes in the area of education and its primary role in the country’s development. “The area of education is very sensitive, we need to measure thousand times then cut,” the President of Armenia said in particular. “We have to learn much in the social, cultural, and educational areas, but I see as very dangerous to just copy-paste a constitution or a textbook. Any nation and people should have unchangeable standards, values which should not change with time. Whatever we present to the world, should be genuinely ours.”

Noting that today’s world differs considerably from the previous, and the previous means not 100 but 20 years ago, Armen Sarkissian said, “The amount of information is huge. If you are able to digest that info, coordinate and make corresponding conclusions, develop a plan and work according to that plan, then you become the one who knows where to go, business which knows where it goes, culture which knows where it goes and a country which knows where it goes. One of our main tasks is to understand at the moment of uncertainty who we are and we are going. If we are able to get a clear idea, we will benefit from it. It is essential for us to understand first the world that has changed, to know it well and the second, to have our own place, at least a vision, on where we want to be. If we have that vision, there also should be a pertinent plan, and then – a program of action.

Certainly, no matter what kind of decision is made, we will appear in a place where culture, education, science and being contemporary is essential. We can be successful if we are in line with the contemporary world.”
