President of the Republic Armen Sarkissian’s Appeal

Dear compatriots,

Today, our country as a state and our society, all of us are in a deep post-war crisis. This must be recorded without formality, without deceiving ourselves, and at the same time without dispair. We must be fully aware and admit the existence of that crisis and do our best to overcome it. Together, holding each other’s hand.

Irrespective of the positions held, political beliefs and viewpoints, personal likes and dislikes,we must think about the future of our state, country and people.

Everyone has the right to express his or her opinion and discontent, and to demand the authorities’ explanation for the immense human and territorial losses caused by the war.

The Government cannot act in the spirit of the public moods of 2018. Today’s reality is completely different. In these tense and difficult days, I appeal to all of you: every action of yours must comply with the law and must be legal.

I also appeal to the representatives of the law enforcement bodies: it is important to maintain order. At the same time, remember that in front of you, in the streets of Yerevan, is our compatriot, one of us, a woman or a man, young or old. Among them are those who defended our homeland, each of us and you a few days ago.

Violence and disproportionate use of force and measures are inadmissible and unacceptable.

You must manifest responsibility, and high standards of humanity and professionalism in your actions.

Today, we need crucial decisions. Solutions must be within the national accord. We should be able to restore the atmosphere of tolerance and mutual respect, to bring together all the positive and vital qualities of our people, and to turn them into a collective power, which will be the guarantee of our further success. The activities of the President and the Presidential Institute is aimed at that very goal.

God bless all of us.
