A visit focused on the issues related to expanding cooperation in the fields of alternative energy and technologies. President Armen Sarkissian will leave for the UAE
Today, the President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian will pay a working visit to the United Arab Emirates.
During the visit, President Sarkissian will meet with the top leadership of the United Arab Emirates. Discussions will focus on current and future issues related to the development agenda of interstate cooperation. They will also refer to the agreements reached during the previous meetings, the implementation of which slowed down due to the coronavirus.
The President of Armenia will visit the Masdar scientific-industrial centre. The Masdar company has launched its first investment program in Armenia's renewable energy within the framework of building a 200-megawatt photovoltaic plant. During his official visit to the United Arab Emirates in 2019, the President of the Republic Armen Sarkissian had obtained an agreement that Masdar, one of the world’s leading companies in the field of renewable energy, would implement investment programs in Armenia. The investment program the Masdar implemented in the field of renewable energy in Armenia today is the first step of mutually beneficial cooperation. During this visit, the President of the Republic and the leadership of Masdar will discuss issues related to new investments for the next stage of the program and the sphere of alternative energy, as well as cooperation in the field of the latest technologies.
President Sarkissian will discuss issues related to aviation, tourism, and investments with the leadership of the Emirate of Sharjah. There will also be a reference to Armenia’s participation as an honorary guest of the annual Sharjah Heritage Days international cultural festival this year, a unique opportunity to present the rich cultural heritage of our country and people.
The President of Armenia will participate in the prestigious international forum Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2022 and the conferences organized within its framework.
Abu Dhabi Stability Week, held since 2008, is a global platform that hosts leaders of states and governments, politicians, reputable experts, scientists, and businessmen to discuss the global challenges and pressing issues of sustainable development within the framework of various events and conferences. This year, President of Singapore Halimah Jacob, President of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) Alok Sharma, Foreign Minister of Egypt, President of COP 27 Sameh Shoukry, Special Envoy of the President of the United States John Kerry, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency Francesco La Camera, Vice President of the World Bank Group Ferid Belhaj, 8th UN Secretary General, President of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute Ban Ki-moon, Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Ghebreyesus, members of governments of different countries, heads of international organizations and large corporations will attend the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
President Sarkissian will be the keynote speaker at the Youth4Sustainability Conference, taking place within the framework of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, as well as thematic discussions on the problems of sustainability, environment, renewable energy, and women's involvement therein.
