President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Senators from Mexico

Today, President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Senators from Mexico Alejandra del Carmen León Gastélum and Indira Kempis Martínez.

Welcoming the guests, President Khachaturyan noted that Armenia highly appreciates the adoption of the document recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the Senate of Mexico on February 8 this year and the invaluable contribution of the senators to this matter.

“I am really glad for this meeting, which gives an opportunity to express gratitude to you for your political position in the Senate of Mexico, especially within the framework of your support in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. This step that you took means a lot to us, since the Armenian Genocide is one of the most painful pages in the history of our people.

I also want to thank you for your position regarding the situation we are in today and your support with it. I am speaking of the aggression of Azerbaijan against Nagorno Karabakh and, in September of last year, against Armenia.”

Expressing her gratitude for the reception, Alejandra del Carmen León Gastélum noted: “First of all, the Armenian genocide is about the violation of human rights. Senators realise very well that the topics regarding human rights must always be visible to make sure such crimes will never happen again.”

During the meeting, the President presented to the Mexican Parliamentarians details on the origin and content of the Karabakh issue. Vahagn Khachaturyan touched upon the issue of the Lachin Humanitarian Corridor’s blockade by Azerbaijan, as a result of which, 120 thousand citizens of Nagorno Karabakh are facing a threat of a humanitarian crisis.

Both sides attached importance to the interparliamentary cooperation, as well as the need to activate high-level mutual visits. They touched upon the opportunities for developing cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, trade and economy and the most effective implementation of the existing potential.
