Vassilis Maragos, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Armenia, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan.

Vahagn Khachaturyan congratulated the newly appointed Ambassador on assuming the office and wished him success in fulfilling his responsible mission.

"You are one of those unique people who know Armenia very well and have followed the course of Armenia-EU cooperation during recent years given your work. Our cooperation covers a very wide range, and new ideas, new programs emerge expanding this range.

Even in these difficult times, that work does not stop covering many areas ranging from political dialogue to various spheres of our daily life.

It is definitely driven by the willingness of both sides as well as the active participation of the European Union in the reforms implemented in Armenia, the work on settling the issues in the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict, and, surely, the presence of the European Union observation mission since February of this year.

What is appreciated is that the European Union provided a rapid response to the new challenges that emerged particularly after the 44-day war in 2020, in fact, relations with the European Union have gained new momentum in our political and economic life and have a serious and primary role,”
President Khachaturyan noted.

Ambassador Maragos expressed his gratitude for the reception and noted, "Mr. President, thank you for your welcome speech and warm reception. I assure you that I will serve here as a link between the EU entities, Brussels, and EU citizens since, after all, the support that the European Union provides to Armenia is a joint contribution of our citizens."

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to further expanding and deepening the multi-level cooperation between Armenia and the European Union. The sides also touched upon the process of ensuring the consistency of the reforms implemented in Armenia with the support of the EU. Both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation in various fields ranging from the reforms of the public administration system to the expansion of the use of solar energy.

During the discussion, ideas were exchanged on the regional developments in the South Caucasus and the important role of the European Union's civilian observation mission in this context.

President Khachaturyan emphasized his readiness to support the newly appointed Ambassador in his responsible work and his initiatives to further intensify Armenia-EU collaboration.
