Newly appointed Ambassador of Australia to Armenia John Geering presented his credentials to President Vahagn Khachaturyan

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to Armenia John Geering (residence in Moscow) presented his credentials to the President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan.

President Khachaturyan congratulated the newly appointed Ambassador on taking office and expressed confidence that the latter would make every effort to further strengthen and develop Armenian-Australian relations. "Our country has really warm relations with Australia. I am sure that your appointment will further enhance and deepen our cooperation," the President said, wishing the Ambassador success.

Ambassador John Geering thanked for the reception and stressed that he is ready to do everything possible to strengthen and deepen ties between Armenia and Australia.

Over the course of the meeting, the sides discussed the possibilities of intensifying cooperation between the two countries in trade-economic, high-tech and other spheres. They touched upon the importance of holding political consultations between the sides, as well as stimulating parliamentary diplomacy, which will be an important impetus for strengthening the partnership between Armenia and Australia in various directions.

During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on the prospects of the visa regime simplification for Armenian citizens to Australia.

At the meeting, the President of Armenia drew the newly appointed Ambassador's attention to the threat of the destruction of the Armenian and Christian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh, which should become unacceptable through the joint efforts of a progressive society. The President also touched upon the programs implemented by the Government of Armenia in the direction of solving the socio-humanitarian and other problems of internally displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh, and in this context, in the person of the Ambassador, expressed gratitude to the leadership of Australia for the humanitarian assistance provided.
