President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, Annita Demetriou.

Welcoming Annita Demetriou’s visit to Armenia, President Khachaturyan noted that the relationship between the peoples of the two countries is based on historical friendship, solidarity, and mutual respect. The President emphasized that Cyprus is a valuable and trustworthy partner for Armenia.

The President of the Republic highly appreciated the cooperation established between the parliaments of Armenia and Cyprus, particularly through parliamentary friendship groups, active communication between foreign affairs committees, and mutual visits.

Referring to the opportunities present in bilateral relations, the President noted that closer cooperation, especially in the fields of tourism and information technology, could serve as a new impetus for the development of economic ties between Armenia and Cyprus. In this context, the existence of direct flights between the two countries was assessed positively.

Both sides stressed the importance of opening resident embassies in each country as a step toward strengthening the institutional foundations of cooperation. The existing potential for collaboration and the effective and unimpeded cooperation between the two countries on international platforms were also highly valued.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the development of democratic institutions, commitment to democratic values, and the need to deepen cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture.

The smooth progress of political dialogue at various levels was positively noted, as it contributes to the expansion of bilateral ties. The ongoing development of parliamentary diplomacy was highlighted as an important tool for bringing peoples closer together.

At the conclusion of the meeting, in recognition of her significant contribution to strengthening and developing the friendly relations between Armenia and Cyprus, President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Annita Demetriou was awarded the Order of Friendship.
