Newly Appointed Ambassador of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay presented her credentials to President Vahagn Khachaturyan

The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay to the Republic of Armenia, Silvana Lesca Barolin, presented her credentials to President Vahagn Khachaturyan.

President Khachaturyan congratulated the ambassador on her appointment, emphasizing that Armenia and Uruguay have always enjoyed friendly relations. “An atmosphere of mutual respect and trust has been established between our countries, and we are interested in developing relations with Uruguay in all fields. I am confident that You will bring new energy to Armenian-Uruguayan relations. These ties have always been friendly and aimed at strengthening the bonds between our peoples. At the same time, we must look to the future and take forward-looking steps. The potential is there to deepen our cooperation. I have witnessed this personally during my visits,” the President noted.

Ambassador Silvana Lesca Barolin, expressing her gratitude for the warm reception, stated: “I am happy to be in Armenia and am fully committed, within the scope of my new position, to contributing to the further development and expansion of the already strong relations between our two countries.”

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the need to strengthen business ties and promote new formats of cooperation. Addressing the prospects for collaboration in cultural, tourism, and other sectors, they underlined the importance of expanding sectoral initiatives and implementing joint programs.

President Khachaturyan and Ambassador Barolin highlighted the importance of high-level mutual visits in strengthening bilateral partnerships, noting that such exchanges deepen mutual trust and enrich the partnership landscape.

Particular attention was given to the potential for enhanced cooperation in the field of information technology. The interlocuters discussed the opportunities for opening a branch of the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Uruguay, as well as establishing Uruguay’s “Ceibal” Center mission in Armenia.

Regarding international cooperation, both sides emphasized the importance of unobstructed and constructive engagement in multilateral platforms. Special attention was given to the development of parliamentary diplomacy as a continuous tool for deepening bilateral relations.

Within the framework of the meeting, they also discussed matters related to the 2026 UN Biodiversity Conference (COP-17), highlighting the importance of forming joint positions and enhancing cooperation in that context.
