President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Delegation of High Representatives from Northern Europe and the Baltic States
President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan today received a delegation of high-level representatives from Northern Europe and the Baltic states.
During the meeting, President Khachaturyan emphasized the importance of partnership between Armenia and the countries of Northern Europe and the Baltic region, underscoring that it is based on historical ties, traditional friendship, and shared democratic values.
“Our relations with the countries you represent have developed quite intensively in recent times. This visit is particularly valuable, because we especially appreciate the direct involvement of individuals like you, those who participate in political processes and influence decision-making. You now have the opportunity to familiarize yourselves firsthand with the situation in Armenia, and such meetings become a platform for direct dialogue on important issues,” the President said.
President Khachaturyan noted that the countries of Northern Europe and the Baltics already have well-established cooperation, which can serve as a source of inspiration for the countries of the South Caucasus.
“We express hope that peace will ultimately be established in our region, and under those conditions, cooperation between the South Caucasus countries will enter a completely new framework and take on a different nature,” the President of Armenia stressed.
President Khachaturyan also highly praised the experience of the Baltic states, noting that although Armenia and those countries were once part of the Soviet Union, the latter managed in a short time to become fully sovereign and democratic states.
“Of course, communication is very important for us in terms of establishing democratic institutions, because you represent well-established democratic states where the principles of democracy, human rights, freedom, and the rule of law have become the norm of daily life. These values are deeply rooted in the mindset of your societies.
In this regard, it is extremely important for us to hear from you, to assess your experience, and to understand our future path. I particularly value the experience of the Baltic countries, because after all, we were once part of the Soviet Union together, and since 1991 you have managed, in a very short time, to emerge as fully-fledged democratic states with influence not only in the European Union but also, why not, globally,” the President stated.
“Consider us as one of your own, carriers of the same values you uphold, which are collectively known as democracy. Armenia is a country that, even in today’s difficult times when democracy faces certain challenges worldwide, is ready to stand with you in defending and strengthening these values. In the end, consider us as one of you, on the same path of realizing those ideas we all rely on: human rights, freedom, and the rule of law,” said the President in his welcoming remarks.
During the meeting, President Khachaturyan answered questions from members of the delegation, addressing regional developments, the progress of democratic reforms, and prospects for further cooperation.
