President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Ambassador of Sweden to Armenia, Patrik Svensson

Ahead of Sweden’s National Day, President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received Sweden’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia, Patrik Svensson.

The President congratulated the Ambassador and, through him, extended his best wishes to the friendly people of Sweden on their national holiday, wishing them peace, progress, and prosperity.

“I would also like to express my gratitude for the close cooperation and the sincere trust shown towards the Republic of Armenia. This trust is based on various joint programs being implemented in our country, which support democracy.

I believe that many countries follow Your country’s example, seeing how Sweden approaches the reforms taking place in Armenia. I can say that, in many cases, this is the reason why they also join those initiatives that aim to support Armenia, through economic, political, and overall reforms directed at a single goal: the establishment of democratic institutions in Armenia. And of course, this contributes to strengthening Armenia’s sovereignty, as well as enhancing the country’s security and defense capacity,” the President noted.

Ambassador Patrik Svensson expressed his gratitude for the reception. “On Sweden’s National Day, it is an honor for me to be welcomed here today. Thank you also for the warm words and good wishes regarding my country,” the Ambassador said.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a range of bilateral agenda issues related to the development of Armenia–Sweden relations, emphasizing the importance of enhancing political dialogue and deepening cooperation in various fields.

The President highly valued Sweden’s longstanding support for reforms aimed at strengthening democracy, particularly highlighting the importance of applying Swedish experience in the fields of governance transparency, rule of law, the expansion of the role of civil society, and the protection of human rights.

The discussion also touched upon the prospects of expanding bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and high-tech fields. It was noted that there is significant untapped potential for developing economic ties between the two countries, especially through investment programs, the exchange of innovative technologies, and joint initiatives in the digital sector.

In this context, the importance of fostering cooperation with Sweden’s leading high-tech companies, such as “Ericsson”, was emphasized. Both sides underscored the importance of joint programs in the fields of communication technologies and telecommunications, which will contribute to the advancement of Armenia’s technological potential.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on the development of parliamentary diplomacy and the continuity of cooperation. It was emphasized that inter-parliamentary collaboration can serve as a significant stimulus for deepening bilateral relations and strengthening mutual understanding.
