President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received Ambassador of Canada to Armenia Andrew Turner

The President congratulated the Ambassador on Canada’s National Day and asked him to convey his warm wishes to the leadership and friendly people of Canada.

“The development of our relations in recent years has been impressive. I would like to thank the Government of Canada for the support shown to Armenia, support aimed at upholding Armenia’s independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty. This is a very important factor. For any country and for the identity of any people, independence and sovereignty are the most vital guarantees that allow them to feel secure and think about development,” the President emphasized.

President Khachaturyan also expressed gratitude for the support Canada has shown during difficult times by standing by Armenia and expressing solidarity. In this context, he particularly highlighted Canada’s involvement in the EU Monitoring Mission, noting it as a valuable contribution to strengthening peace and security in the region.

Ambassador Andrew Turner thanked the President for the warm reception and kind wishes.

“I’m glad for this meeting. It’s always a good occasion to celebrate Armenian-Canadian friendship. This is the second time we are celebrating Canada Day together since the embassy opened here. I believe, as You mentioned, we’ve made impressive progress in our relations over the past year,”
the Ambassador stated.

Ambassador Turner noted that Canada highly values Armenia’s ongoing efforts toward peace and stability in the region and will continue to provide support in that direction. He also reaffirmed Canada’s readiness to assist Armenia’s leadership in strengthening democratic governance in the country.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of promoting cooperation in areas of mutual interest between Armenia and Canada. Particular attention was given to intensifying economic and trade relations, as well as reinforcing collaboration in the high-tech sector.

The conversation also highlighted the need to enhance parliamentary diplomacy and apply Canada’s best practices in the development of political culture and democratic institutions.

They discussed opportunities to strengthen cultural ties, emphasizing the potential for cooperation within the framework of La Francophonie.
