With the support of the President, a valuable part of Renowned Philosopher Karen Swassjan’s Library was donated to the Matenadaran

With the support of President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan, a valuable part of the library and archival collection of renowned philosopher, cultural scholar, literary critic, and translator Karen Swassjan was donated to the Mesrop Mashtots Matenadaran.

Presenting the significant collection from the philosopher’s library, Matenadaran Director Ara Khzmalyan shared that earlier this year he visited Karen Swassjan’s residence in Basel and, together with Swassjan’s wife Anaida Swassjan-Galoyan and with the participation of Armenia’s Ambassador to Switzerland Hasmik Tolmajyan, signed a Memorandum of Intent. According to the memorandum, the philosopher’s library and archival materials were donated to the Matenadaran.

Khzmalyan expressed gratitude to President Vahagn Khachaturyan and the President Office for their support in transferring the collection to Armenia.

Selected items from the library are currently on display at the Matenadaran.

Karen Swassjan’s library includes monumental editions of German classical philosophy, rare works of European philosophy and fiction, and a rich collection of cultural studies literature.
