The President of the Republic received the Minister of Agriculture of Iraq
President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received the delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Iraq, Abbas Jabr Al-Maliki, who arrived to participate in the session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Armenia and Iraq.
Welcoming the guests, the President noted that Iraq is an important and reliable partner of Armenia in the Middle East, with cooperation dynamically developing in the fields of trade and economy, education and culture, humanitarian affairs, and information technologies.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Minister Al-Maliki emphasized the importance of the Armenia–Iraq Business Forum held in Yerevan as an effective platform for fostering ties between business circles and reaching practical agreements, and he stressed the need to make such formats regular in order to expand the areas of cooperation.
The sides placed particular emphasis on the importance of establishing contacts and effective cooperation between the business communities of the two countries, as well as promoting business ties in areas of mutual interest.
During the meeting, special attention was given to the agricultural sector. Both sides highlighted that Armenian fruits and vegetables, livestock, meat and dairy products could be of interest to the Iraqi market. The restoration of direct flights and facilitation of cargo transportation was underscored as an important factor for promoting trade and economic ties.
The sides also emphasized the importance of boosting bilateral investment opportunities, as well as realizing the existing potential of cooperation in the fields of energy, academia, tourism, and others, through the implementation of joint programs and the deepening of relations.
