Today, as we celebrate the 34th anniversary of our independence, we essentially have the opportunity to live a truly peaceful life. On this path, we have registered significant progress also thanks to the support of the EU. In recent years, our cooperation has been particularly close, and its logic is directed toward establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the region. We highly appreciate the support and assistance that the EU is providing to Armenia.”

For her part, Commissioner Marta Kos expressed gratitude for the reception, adding:

“It is an honor to begin my first visit to Armenia with a meeting with You, on the eve of such an important day when You mark the 34th anniversary of Your country’s independence. I congratulate You, Your team, and Your people. What You have already achieved, and the EU’s desire to continue standing by You in these efforts, has historic significance.”

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues on the agenda of the Armenia-European Union multifaceted partnership. They addressed the prospects for expanding cooperation, particularly in the field of energy, emphasizing the importance of ensuring Armenia’s energy security and developing renewable energy.

The interlocutors also stressed the importance of capacity-building programs on the ground, in particular the ongoing joint “Resilience and Support” initiative in Syunik, which makes a significant contribution to the socio-economic stability and development of the region.

Both sides highly appreciated the humanitarian assistance provided to Armenia by the EU in recent years. In this context, it was noted that EU support for the implementation of democratic reforms, strengthening of institutional capacities, and ensuring the rule of law greatly contributes to the consolidation of Armenia’s democratic system and the comprehensive development of society.
