President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Cornel Ionescu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Armenia

President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received Cornel Ionescu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Armenia on the occasion of Romania’s national holiday- Great Union Day.

The President welcomed the Ambassador and congratulated him, as well as the Romanian leadership and the friendly people of Romania, on the occasion of the national holiday, wishing them peace, prosperity, and continued progress.

Expressing gratitude for the reception and the good wishes, Ambassador Cornel Ionescu noted that he will continue his efforts aimed at expanding and deepening cooperation between Armenia and Romania.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the activation of initiatives and steps aimed at advancing cooperation between the two countries. Both sides emphasized the importance of fully realizing the significant potential for economic cooperation, as well as expanding ties between the parliaments of the two nations.

A reference was made to the prospects for implementing joint programs in education and science, high technologies, energy, civil aviation, and other fields. The importance of deepening cooperation within the framework of the European Union was highlighted as well.

Special emphasis was placed on the significance of the direct Yerevan–Bucharest flights, which contribute to strengthening economic, tourism, and people-to-people ties between Armenia and Romania.

The meeting also touched upon two major international events to be held in Armenia next year — the European Political Community Summit and the UN COP-17 Conference on Biodiversity, highlighting the importance of support and engagement from partner countries to ensure their successful organization and effectiveness.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on current regional and international developments, emphasizing the importance of addressing existing challenges through peaceful dialogue and the strengthening of democratic principles.
