President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Armenia, Christos Sofianopoulos
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Armenia, Christos Sofianopoulos, on the occasion of Greece’s Independence Day.
Welcoming him, the President, through the Ambassador, congratulated the leadership of Greece and the friendly people on the national holiday, emphasizing that relations between the two countries occupy a special place in Armenia’s foreign policy agenda. He noted that the ties formed between the two peoples have a centuries-old history and are based on mutual trust, sympathy, and readiness to support each other in difficult times.
In his remarks, Ambassador Sofianopoulos expressed gratitude for the reception, noting that relations with Armenia are not only a historical heritage for Greece but also an important direction of modern cooperation. He emphasized that in recent years bilateral ties have noticeably intensified, encompassing new areas and creating new opportunities for cooperation.
During the meeting, the sides thoroughly discussed prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation, identifying several priority areas. In particular, issues related to deepening political dialogue, expanding economic ties, promoting investment projects, as well as intensifying cultural and educational exchanges were discussed. The expansion of cooperation in the fields of high technologies and defense was also highlighted as important, taking into account existing potential and mutual interest.
The sides particularly emphasized that cooperation between the two countries is developing in a stable and consistent way, regardless of external circumstances. It was noted that the foundation of this progress lies not only in intergovernmental cooperation but also in the strong friendship formed between the peoples and the alignment of mutual interests, which serve as an additional impetus for the implementation of new initiatives.
During the conversation, regional developments were also addressed. The sides discussed existing challenges and exchanged views on possible ways to effectively address them, emphasizing the role of cooperative approaches. It was noted that in this context, efforts aimed at establishing peace, ensuring long-term stability, and developing democratic institutions are of particular importance, as they can contribute to creating a predictable and secure environment in the region.
